Few things are more frustrating than witnessing a once-in-a-lifetime moment, reaching for your phone to capture a picture or video, and receiving an error message because you’re out of storage. It’s a uniquely 21st century problem, but a problem all the same. Smartphones have limited space to store apps, photos, videos, music, and other content, and even when you have multiple gigabytes at your disposal, you can run out of room before you know it. Here are four simple tips for decluttering your smartphone and optimizing the space you have to work with.
1. Take Inventory of Your Apps- If you’re someone who collects applications like Pokémon cards, you’re liable to run out of space very quickly—while applications vary in size, some of them can be multiple gigabytes when you factor in all of the included content. Look through your apps for things you can get rid of and keep the essentials. If you’re having trouble ditching apps because you’re worried you might need them some time, try this: move all of your apps into a folder labeled “Unused.” As you use your different applications throughout the week, drag them out of the “Unused” folder and onto your home screen, or into a folder labeled “Used.” After a week or two, you’ll have a pretty good idea which apps you actually use, and which are just taking up space.
