3 Ways to Kick-start Your Fitness Motivation

This year I’m going to lose weight and get fit! One of the most common New Years Resolutions, this goal is responsible for a January spike in gym membership sales and activewear purchases. However, by this time of the year when your fitness motivation can be running low. If you’ve swapped your morning cycle class for an extra hour of sleep and your activewear has been through more Netflix binges than sweat sessions it might feel like you’ll never get back on track. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Get your fitness motivation back by following these easy steps.


Create a Fitness Vision Board

Inspire yourself by making a visual representation of your goals. Whether it be photos of sportspeople you admire, that yoga pose you’re dying to master or the beach where you want to showfitness motivation off your summer body, make sure you place your board in a spot you look at every day. This will be a great reminder of what you will gain if you just put in the work.


Join a Team Sport

Get a group of friends together and sign up with a local sports league. Netball, basketball, football or dodgeball, it doesn’t matter what sport it is as long as it gets you active. Saturday night. It’s a great way to stay motivated because you can’t miss a week without letting the team down. Plus, it’s a much healthier way to keep in touch with your friends than hitting up a new bar every Saturday night.


Set Yourself a Specific Goal

Setting yourself a general goal to ‘get fit’ can be a bit overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. Try to be a little more specific and give yourself something concrete and measurable to achieve. Whether it be going to the gym three times a week, running 5 kilometres or learning all the moves in your Zumba class, meeting a small goal is going to motivate you to continue on your fitness journey!

While it can seem impossible to maintain a consistent fitness regime, making these small changes can make a big difference to your motivation. You’re much more likely to commit to keeping fit if you have the tools to motivate yourself when it all seems a bit too hard. It’s never too late to kickstart your fitness motivation, so get out there and do it!
