4 Websites You Should Have Bookmarked

Real quick; do you have these four websites bookmarked? If not, you might want to consider doing so but if you’re not completely sold then let me break it down. Below I’ve listed the 4 websites you should have bookmarked, told you a little bit about why, and then told you our favorite thing about each. Ready, set, go!

1. MakeUseOf

ABOUT: “We teach technology. Founded in 2007, MakeUseOf is a technology website, focused on bridging the connection between users, computers, devices and the Internet through education. Our mission is to help users deconstruct the world of technology and gadgets.”

REASON TO BOOKMARK: This website explains technology to people that don’t understand technology. I’m a millennial and we’re supposed to know everything about technology but honestly, it’s just not my thing. Sure I’m a step above my mother who signs “Sincerely, Mom” on her Facebook posts but I’m no guru. However, since subscribing to MakeUseOf, I’ve known about the latest releases, have a better understanding of how to edit videos I take with my GoPro, and even learned about a FireFox extension that stops Facebook from tracking me.

OUR FAVORITE THING: Free Guide Downloads! Yes, that’s right. They break down everything from how to use the new SnapChat to an “Online Shopping Guide.” They usually have an article that will walk you through it, or you can download a PDF. I mean seriously guys, you can get anything from the “History of Pokemon” to “The Complete Facebook Privacy Guide.”

2. A Cup of Jo

ABOUT: “A Cup of Jo is a daily lifestyle site for women. We cover everything from fashion to culture to parenthood, and we strive to be authentic.”

REASON TO BOOKMARK: You’ll find some of the most relatable articles geared towards travel, relationships, motherhood and so much more. The website was founded by Joanna Goddard. She originally started the website as a weekend hobby. Goddard has spent a lot of time in the industry and has experiences from a lot of big names, such as Cosmopolitan and Glamour. The content she writes feels like a mix between a short story, an email from a friend, and an informative piece you can grow from. The other writers make you feel the same way. All in all, don’t tell my boss but I often find myself getting lost in the stories and articles this site produces.

OUR FAVORITE THING: “Four Fun Things” … what do we mean by this?! They have a series of articles titled “Four Fun Things,” and basically it can be heartwarming, random, funny, informative; it varies! The only thing that doesn’t vary is that it’s always FOUR fun things because well, if not, they’d probably need to rethink the name.

3. AutoStraddle

ABOUT: “Autostraddle is an intelligent, hilarious & provocative voice and a progressively feminist online community for multiple generations of kickass lesbian, bisexual & otherwise inclined ladies (and their friends).”

REASON TO BOOKMARK: We’re not exactly introducing a new website here. AutoStraddle has won awards, held meet ups around the world, and is also the most popular site for lesbians. The site is geared towards lesbian, queer, and bisexual women but we process regardless of how you identify, you’ll enjoy browsing through. They have more sexually driven articles such as “How to Eat Ass” but also cover more serious issues like highlighting some of the LGBT activists around the world. Actually, who am I to judge? Maybe “How to Eat Ass” is just as serious as activism but either way, check it out.

OUR FAVORITE THING: Saturday Morning Cartoons; and they don’t just happen on Saturday’s! These are comics that cover a variety of issues. Some are serious, like going off your anti-depressants, while others are more playful like broken New Years resolutions.

4. Goop

ABOUT: “Launched in the fall of 2008 out of Gwyneth Paltrow’s kitchen as a homespun weekly newsletter, GP wanted a place to organize her unbiased travel recommendations, health-centric recipes, and shopping discoveries for friends, and she also wanted to get her own questions—about health, fitness, and the psyche—answered.  We are a lifestyle brand with its roots in content across six key pillars: Wellness, Travel, Food, Beauty, Style, and Work; within those pillars, we curate and sell a tightly-edited array of products that adhere to our brand values, and we also make our own goods.”

REASON TO BOOKMARK: First off, it was started by Gwyneth Paltrow herself but that’s not the only reason to bookmark! Paltrow has been able to collect information, stories, and articles from some serious experts. The advice, tips, tricks, and answers cover a variety of topics. One of the girls in our office is pregnant and found suggestions for pregnancy-friendly lunches in the “Ask Thea” column. Personally, I am not pregnant and therefore I enjoy going to their cocktails section. I’ve actually attempted a lot of cocktails from there and haven’t been disappointed yet. What’s my favorite, you ask? It’s the Shiso Cool Cocktail.  I’ll say you’re welcome in advance.

OUR FAVORITE THING: The travel section! Why? This travel section goes above and beyond for me. They have these things called “city guides” where you can select the city you’re inquiring about and then they will direct you to that specific city guide. In each guide, they tell you about food, drinks, activities, shopping. They cover it all. Not only is it informative, it’s an enjoyable read too. Sometimes I just browse through different cities and pretend that I’m there (again, don’t tell my boss).
