You’ve probably heard of the term “ghosted” but most likely in the context of dating. Up until recently, being ghosted meant someone disappeared/cut you out of their life but now, it’s the latest hair trend.
The Today Show reported about this hot new hair trend, first spotted on London-based stylist Jason Hogan’s Instagram page. This hairstyle is different from just your regular platinum hues; it’s a blend of graphite, quartz, and oyster shades that hide internally in the hair.
Basically, as the hair moves it retreats, making you wonder if you actually saw it. This “blink and miss it” movement is why the hair style is called ghosted. Get it now?
So how did this trend come about? Jason Hogan says it basically came from necessity. He told Allure magazine, “I needed to give my straight-haired platinum and ice-blonde clients texture, interest, and dimension without a classic low light and also maintain the condition and integrity of their hair.”
And how do you do it? He started by using a lightener to decolor the hair. Next, he layered through with acidic semi-permanent colors to create the effect. From start to finish, the process can take up to 6 hours.
Are you ready to ghost your hair?
